Working to Improve Kids’ Access to Nature

Bad Tuna. A long fish story… made short

Lucky to have recently been with some very good friends for a 1st time fishing trip to the Florida Keys for Blackfin Tuna and Mahi. Given our newbie status in the Keys, we did not at first recognize the variety of fish we were seeing. “One of us” caught a lovely blue and silver football shaped fish which “we” immediately assumed was a Blackfin Tuna.

Given the ultra competitive nature of this group, there ensued a constant level of chatter about the quality of this particular catch… “Not a” tuna, “garbage” tuna, “mackerel” tuna, “skipjack” tuna, “who knows what” tuna…

Turns out it was a Blue Bonito (aka Little Tunny - you can tell by the faint spots just below the pectoral fin). Forever, to be known amongst our friends as Bad Tuna.

Bad Tuna has now taken on a life of its own as we hope to use it as a vehicle to share some local knowledge and encourage others to “get on out there and smile”.

We are also offering some fun merchandise to help bring a smile to your face and raise some money. We will donate 100% of our profits to community support and service organizations in a position to help others gain better access to the outdoors.
